According to the Ghana National Communications Authority, there are 28 entities licensed to operate ghana tv stations.

There are 20 free on air ghana tv operators.  There are 7 pay per view ghana tv operators.  One operator is licensed for

research purposes.  Ghana Tv comprises of assorted ways of transmission:  Free to Air Terrestrial, Pay TV Digital SatelliteKU

(DVB-H),(DVB-T), MobileTV(DVB-H), Free to Air Digital Satellite, MobileTV(TDMB), UHF, Free to Air Digital Terrestial,

Free to Air Satellite, Direct to Home Satellite, Free on Air, Cable and DTH Satellite.


Ghana TV Transmission Modes


Terrestrial Television is a mode of television broadcasting which does not involve satellite transmission or cables —

typically using radio waves through transmitting and receiving antennas or television antenna aerials.



Digital Satellite Television – a television system in which the signal is transmitted to an orbiting satellite that receives the

signal and amplifies it and transmits it back to earth.  The KU band is a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in the

microwave range of frequencies.


Mobile TV-DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) is one of three prevalent mobile TV formats


DVB-T is an abbreviation for Digital Video Broadcasting — Terrestrial


Mobile TV -TDMB- Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is a digital radio transmission technology developed in

South Korea as part of the national IT project for sending multimedia such as TV, radio and datacasting to mobile devices

such as mobile phones.


Free To Air or View Digital Satellite like The Multitv Digibox  describes television (TV) and radio services broadcast in

clear (unencrypted) form, allowing any person with the appropriate receiving equipment to receive the signal and view or

listen to the content without requiring a subscription (or other ongoing cost) or one-off fee (e.g. Pay-per-view).

In the traditional sense, this is carried on terrestrial radio signals and received with an antenna.  Free-to-view (FTV) is,

Ghana Television is now enjoyed by most people young and old.  Gone are the days when the tube was black and white.

Most people will remember when the tubes had limited programming, anyways today Ghana Television can be enjoyed by

Ghanaians home and abroad via their computers and smartphones.  Today most Ghana Television stations have their

schedules published on their websites and i was wondering if there was enough media to let the average joe know what time,

program schedule, daily line up and actual program reviews on the programs being broadcast.  The GhanaTVGuide.Info is aimed at

bridging the divided.

Ghana Television  Stations

Ghana E TV

E Tv broadcast free to air  in Accra and Kumasi.  Accra is the capital city of Ghana. Ghana’s programming falls into six broad

categories entertainment; talkshows; sports; current affairs; drama; and movies. It also broadcasts special major one-off events,

children’s programming and comedy shows. Ghana has historically invested heavily in local talent and programming

and supplements its local content with shows imported from South Africa and the USA. About 30-40% of its prime time programming

is locally-produced. Its local acquisitions are a mix of in-house shows and co-productions with local production companies

Locally-produced shows include Awake, The Be Bold Show,100 Degrees, Meet the Girls, The Late Night Celebrity Show and Sports

Lounge. South African shows include the hit-soapies Rhythm City and Scandal! and international imports include

How I Met Your Mother and WWE Wrestling. Ghana has an in-house news production department that focuses on national and business news content for its website and

local and international news stories for its television transmissions. The main nightly news programme is called Prime News and

is fronted by Gideon Aryeequaye in an 20:00h slot. The main business news programme is fronted by Christal Jeanne and is called

eBusiness Journal, airing prior to Prime News at 19:30h.

In addition to regular news updates broadcast during the day, Ghana also airs a daily news programme from parent station South Africa at 18:00h, eNews Africa.

Ghana Gtv or GBC

GTV (Ghana Television) is the national  premier public broadcaster in Ghana.  GTV broadcasts mainly local programs, with over

half of the schedule consisting of original productions.  GTV also broadcasts some American shows through its collaboration with

other nationally owned Anglo-African TV stations. Some of these shows include, In The House, The Cosby Show, Taina,

Becker, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Family Matters, Moesha, Soul Food, King of Queens, CNN, PBS

, Cartoon Network, NBA, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Passions, Touched by an Angel and a host of others. Although most of these shows

are not currently running on GTV, they once did or still are.

a variety of television programmes including acclaimed news bulletins, dramas and successful reality television and entertainment
